Argos Packaging & Protection introduces two innovative films for fresh packaging that respond to the growing demand for more sustainable solutions and are ready for the future.
norifreshâ„¢
With norifreshâ„¢, we are taking an important step towards fossil-free packaging. Argos Packaging & Protection introduces norifreshâ„¢ in collaboration with noriware. This top-seal film for direct food contact is 100% biobased and made from seaweed. Thus, norifreshâ„¢ aligns seamlessly with the upcoming PPWR regulations regarding the ban on single-use plastic packaging for fruits and vegetables. A certain number of products may then no longer be packaged in plastic.
The packaging world is facing a clear transition. Legislation regarding single-use plastic packaging for fruits and vegetables is being tightened. norifreshâ„¢ helps producers and packagers to prepare for this in time, without compromising on performance or efficiency.
The main advantages offered by norifreshâ„¢
According to the EU definition, norifresh™ is not classified as plastic. The film is completely bio-based and contains no fossil resources. Compared to conventional plastic films, norifresh™ achieves 70–89% lower CO₂ emissions. After use, the film can be recycled together with paper and cardboard, and it can be sealed on uncoated cardboard and pulp trays and processed on existing topseal machines. Initial tests also show that norifresh™ has the potential to extend the shelf life of fresh products, as the film absorbs moisture and reduces condensation.
Prevented Ocean Plasticâ„¢
In collaboration with Bantam Materials UK, Prevented Ocean Plasticâ„¢ and Innovia Films, we are introducing a new BOPP film for direct food contact. This film is made from mechanically recycled polypropylene from Prevented Ocean Plasticâ„¢ and is available with 10% or 35% PCR. The film complies with European legislation (EU 2022/1616) and is based on a recycling process assessed by EFSA. This aligns with the forthcoming PPWR requirements, which mandate that food contact materials must contain at least 10% recycled material, and supports compliance with regulations.
Processability is also central here: the film processes identically to conventional BOPP film, is suitable for both horizontal and vertical packaging lines, and is available with perforation and printing. The required EU food contact documentation is included with each delivery.
