Argos packages a new typical Dutch apple

Introducing a typical Dutch apple, now available at Lidl

Sustainable apples, grown with love.

Fruit NL – active in the fruit industry for over 100 years – introduces a new product to the market: a typical Dutch apple. Not only the apples are grown in the Netherlands, but the propagation of the planting material also happens locally. It was up to Argos to appropriately translate NOVA's concept into packaging.

A new product, a traditional Dutch apple grown with love for our nature, demands packaging that perfectly reflects this feeling. The trees on which the NOVA grows differ from other apple trees, as they require less water than average and provide more CO2 conversion. Due to the high quality of the trees, less crop protection is needed.

Now available at Lidl

NOVA is not only a great marketing story from Fruit NL, but they have also ensured that the entire story is right; from the propagation of the plant material to choosing where the NOVA apple will ultimately be sold. Lidl is known for its quality and conscious policy regarding fruit and vegetables and that is why the NOVA has been included in the Lidl range from today – Friday 3 July.

In order to ultimately have a fair product on the shelves, the entire chain must meet all sustainability criteria. From the raw materials to the final packaging.

Monsterbox - part of the Best Packaging Group, just like Argos - has developed the design of the NOVA trays. A tray, made of FSC cardboard, made from a single die-cut and with as few operations as possible. Argos Packaging & Protection handled the entire process from design to realisation, thereby ensuring seamless integration. Based on a realistic sample, Argos was able to complete a test phase in a very short period of time. Based on a realistic sample, we were able to complete a test phase in a very short period of time. To be sure of a product that is of sufficient quality for the NOVA apples, a first batch has now been delivered so that the pilot can be completed, and the next batch is ready on demand.
