Argos starts the sale of completely plastic-free flowpack packaging
13 december 2021
At Argos Packaging & Protection, we have a strong focus on sustainability and the aim to deal with packaging in a smarter way together with our customers. This applies to our day-to-day business operations, but the focus is mainly on our products that we produce ourselves or that we purchase from our suppliers and partners. How are the raw materials extracted, what impact does the production process, storage and transport have on the environment and how does the end user handle our packaging. All these factors are essential when developing new sustainable packaging. It is a given that the entire packaging industry has a visible impact on our environment. The production of packaging requires raw materials and energy, which, together with the transport and waste handling, is a considerable burden on the environment. As a packaging supplier, it is therefore essential to take these developments into account and consciously deal with them in the development process. How do we go about this at Argos? As a specialist in the field of packaging, we are constantly looking for new environmentally friendly packaging to expand our range. Besides the fact that packaging must be user-friendly, sustainable packaging is becoming increasingly essential and we must ensure that the packaging can be recycled properly and is biodegradable in case it does not end up in the waste-processing process.
There is an increasing demand from the consumer market for sustainable and eco-friendly packaging that can be easily recycled after use. To accommodate this demand, Argos has, as of September this year, entered into a partnership with inKarta as the official distributor of No Waste Technology (NoW) flowpack packaging for the Dutch and Belgian markets. This partnership ensures that Argos continues to develop itself in the field of sustainability. inKarta has taken up the challenge and succeeded in developing sustainable, recyclable, 100% plastic-free packaging with an FSC label that contributes to a more sustainable environment and significantly extends the shelf life of the products. The NoW flowpack packaging from inKarta is produced from paper and cellulose. Because the packaging is equipped with a 1-layer transparent cellulose window produced from wood pulp, the packaging is 100% recyclable and can be fully integrated into the paper recycling process.

Account Manager Roy van den Heuvel is a specialist in the field of sustainable packaging and jointly responsible for the collaboration with inKarta. "This collaboration offers the opportunity to further expand our range with environmentally friendly packaging. Currently, many products are still flowpacked in plastic packaging and nets and you notice that our customers and consumers increasingly want sustainable packaging that is good for the environment. With the 100% plastic-free flowpack packaging from inKarta, we are well in line with market demands and we also ensure that the shelf life of the products is considerably extended due to the properties of the packaging. Furthermore, the need to contribute to a more sustainable environment is becoming increasingly important. As a packaging specialist, it is our job to address this and develop packaging together with our suppliers and customers that accommodate the demands from the market.

The NoW flowpack packaging offers the possibility to pack fresh, dried and frozen fruit and vegetables in a sustainable way. Moreover, the porosity of the packaging promotes the microclimate inside the bag, which significantly maintains the freshness of the products and extends their shelf life. The consistency of the paper also provides a natural barrier against the spread of bacteria and/or viruses as well as oxidation by UV rays. The large size and specifications of the packaging make it ideal for packaging fruit and vegetables up to 2.5 kg.
Do you also want to become more sustainable in terms of packaging and contribute to a more sustainable environment? Or would you like to receive more information about our new NoW flowpack packaging? Please contact Roy van den Heuvel at agri@argos.nu or at 0174 638 400< /a>.
