Argos talent programme has been very successful in 2021 and tastes like more

10 januari 2022

As an organisation you want to constantly develop and there are various options to do so. One of the ways to further develop your organisation is to implement your own internal academy. In recent years, you have seen this development more and more at both large and small organisations, with academies focusing mainly on employee professionalisation and knowledge sharing. With an internal academy, the potential in the organisation is optimally utilised and knowledge can be shared and secured in an accessible way. By discovering what the needs of employees are and making sure the offer is broad, we ensure that an academy and the learning offer are optimally utilised.

Since 1998, Argos has been a supplier in the field of packaging and protective materials as well as a knowledge partner for its customers in this field. The knowledge about these products lies with our employees. In order to spread this knowledge within the organisation, Argos has set up an internal academy in early 2021, with a focus on our young professionals. The goal of this academy is to learn from each other and to more efficiently utilise the talent of our personnel. Our colleagues make the difference and that is why we give our employees the freedom to grow and develop themselves further in their work. By developing interesting content and setting personal learning goals, we ensure an efficient one-year programme. Every year, various workshops are organised on current and interesting topics, where new developments are discussed and working methods are shared. In addition, there are various moments where the participants and experts organise educational and productive sessions with the goal of learning from each other and ensuring more intensive collaboration.

Mandy Graaf is HR Manager at Argos and one of the initiators of the Argos talent programme. "The Argos talent programme was set up for our young professionals who need new knowledge in the field of packaging and protective materials, and beyond. Argos is young and ambitious and our employees are eager to develop themselves. You notice that there is so much knowledge available within our organisation and there is a need to share and safeguard this within the organisation. Sharing this knowledge is a challenge in some cases, but due to the introduction of the Argos talent programme and the associated knowledge sessions, we notice that sharing is done in a structured manner. By motivating employees to continue learning and setting clear learning objectives together, we ensure an effective talent programme. All sessions we organise are recorded and shared via our internal communication platform Microsoft Teams. This allows our colleagues to review the sessions at any time. Besides being of added value for our current employees to broaden their knowledge, the talent programme is also interesting for potential new employees and makes Argos an attractive new employer."

The sessions of the Argos talent programme are mainly characterised by the interactive way of information sharing and the sense of togetherness among the participants. During the sessions, the participants of the talent programme are supervised by internal and external experts who provide new knowledge in areas such as packaging and protection, commerce, personal development and new insights in various fields. Due to the broad offer, all colleagues can further develop themselves in different areas and get insight into their personal ambitions.

One of our young professionals and part of the talent programme is Luuk Dotinga. Luuk has been working at Argos as an internal sales employee since February 2020 and is very enthusiastic about the sessions that have already been organised. "The talent programme has brought me further in my work in various areas. I can apply the knowledge I gained during the sessions in my daily work. I can serve my customers better and provide them with more specific product information. Participation in the talent programme has already been very valuable to me."

In 2022, Argos' new talent programme will kick off and there will again be a number of interesting sessions for our talents in the first quarter. Would you like to spar with our HR specialist Mandy about setting up the Argos talent programme or are you curious about our approach? Great! Mandy can be reached at LinkedIn or m.graaf@argos.nu and is happy to share her experiences of this process.
