Sustainable Packaging: How we play a role in implementing the 6-R Principles.
03 mei 2024
In today's world, the call for sustainability is getting louder and louder, and the packaging industry is no exception. As specialists in packaging and protection, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to contribute to a more sustainable future by applying the principles of the 6-ren, among others. Let's look at how we can integrate these principles - Refuse, Reduce, Recycle, Resource, Reuse and Rethink - into our business practices and services.1. Refuse
Sometimes the best way to be sustainable is simply to refuse. We critically assess packaging and advise customers on avoiding unnecessary packaging, thereby reducing demand for unsustainable packaging.
2. Reduce
We can play a crucial role in reducing the amount of packaging material we use. By promoting sustainable materials, we can not only reduce environmental impact but also add value to our customers' products.
3. Recycle
Recycling is a well-known principle that is ubiquitous in sustainability discussions. We ensure that packaging materials are recyclable by designing materials in such a way that they can be separated, processed and reused after use.
4. Resource optimisation
Resource optimisation is an important principle that is about making smart use of available materials and energy resources. As packaging specialists, we strive to use renewable resources or recycled materials when producing packaging to reduce the carbon footprint.
5. Reuse
Designing packaging with reusability and recyclability in mind is essential. By creating smart designs that can be easily reused or recycled, we contribute to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy. Our recently launched flower crate is a good example of this. Designed for reuse and logistical efficiency, it offers an excellent alternative to single-use packaging.

6. Rethink
We need to rethink the entire life cycle of packaging, from design to disposal. By exploring alternative materials, developing designs that are easily recyclable, and reducing unnecessary packaging, we can further reduce environmental impact. This includes encouraging a rethinking of the relationship between product and packaging through in-depth analyses of environmental impact and encouraging innovation in sustainable packaging design in-depth analyses of environmental impact and encouraging innovation in sustainable packaging design.
As packaging specialists and suppliers, how can we contribute to these principles?
As packaging specialists and suppliers, there are several ways in which we can have a positive impact on promoting sustainability and implementing the 6-R principles:
Using sustainable materials: We advise customers on using sustainable materials such as recycled content, biodegradable plastics, or renewable materials.
Design for reusability and recyclability: By developing packaging designs that are reusable or made of recyclable materials, we promote reuse and recycling.
Educate and raise awareness: We make our customers aware of the benefits of sustainable solutions and inform them about the principles of the 6-Rs, among others.
Driving innovation: By continuing to innovate and develop new materials and design solutions that promote sustainability, we can move the industry forward.
Collaborating with suppliers: By working with our partners who are also committed to sustainability and offer materials that meet sustainability criteria, we can make a greater impact.
Customer-focused advice: We advise customers based on their specific sustainability needs and objectives and help them choose packaging solutions that fit their goals.
By integrating these approaches into our business practices and services, we as packaging specialists and suppliers can play an important role in promoting sustainability and implementing the 6-R principles in the packaging industry.
