About Van Kessel Fruit:
For over seventy years Van Kessel Fruit (VKF) has specialized in apples and pears from Dutch soil and is the licensee for all Evelina® apples in the Netherlands.

For more than 20 years Van Kessel Fruit (VKF) has been a valued relation of Argos. A partnership that has grown in both range and trust over the last few years. For the past 9 years, product specialist Kevin van Hamelen has been VKF's point of contact and sparring partner. "In recent years I have built a very pleasant relationship with Jacco and Jack van Kessel. We keep expanding the product package and realize fun and challenging projects together. A cooperation that I am really proud of!" said Kevin.

Evelina® apple bag on a roll

Kevin recently teamed up with VKF to develop a new apple bag on roll for their apple brand, Evelina®. VKF is the licensee for all Evelina® apples in the Netherlands and has the right to sell Evelina® apples in the Netherlands. For the packaging of Evelina® apples, VKF uses different formats and materials. Large apples are presented loose on packing sheets in the supermarket, while the smaller variant are presented per 6 pieces in cardboard trays on the shelf. To increase the market share of Evelina® in supermarkets, the idea arose some time ago to package the smallest apples in a kilo bag. However, the introduction of the kilo bag resulted in a significant increase in sales of Evelina® apples.

Using the corporate identity manual, previous expressions of Evelina® and the creative input of Jack and Kevin, the apple bag was developed. In terms of design, the plastic kilo bag fits seamlessly with Evelina®'s other packaging. The size of the bag provides ample space for additional information about the quality, taste and origin of the Evelina® apple. In addition, the bag features the necessary labels and waste recommendations. To ensure mono packaging, the bag is not closed with a clip, but a seal closure has been used.

Sustainable packaging is the future

VKF grows their fresh produce with care for the environment. From picking in the orchards to transporting the products to the customer, they do this in the least environmentally damaging way possible. This is to ensure that generations to come can also enjoy fresh hard fruit.

By making adjustments to packaging and reducing the use of raw materials when packaging different products, VKF saves on material consumption while being able to offer the same protection and presentation as before. They have also optimized various processes to become more sustainable in that area as well and focus on an environmentally friendly future.

Sustainable packaging is an essential part of our day-to-day operations and can no longer be ignored in the development of new packaging and protective materials and the modification of existing products. Working closely with our customers allows us to anticipate their needs and respond quickly to changes in the market. "I believe in continuous improvement and innovation, which allows me to provide my relations with the latest developments in packaging. In this, sustainability is essential and starting point in almost every project. However, it is important that the function of a package is maintained and products have the necessary protection during storage and transport" said Kevin.

We are proud of our cooperation with VKF, the beautiful projects we have realized together and look forward to a pleasant continuation of our collaboration.
