The changing face of sustainable packaging in the AGF sector

28 februari 2024

It is perhaps one of the most discussed topics of recent times: sustainable packaging and protection. With the advent of CSRD reporting and upcoming PPWR regulations and changing legislation in several countries regarding fruit and vegetable packaging, it is crucial to develop new, innovative and future-proof packaging solutions that meet current standards and requirements.

As specialists in packaging and protection, we see the demands in the market changing and are increasingly sitting down with our customers to discuss the possibilities of sustainable packaging and protection. Where are the opportunities to reduce CO2 emissions? Which materials can we replace with less environmentally damaging alternatives? How does the end-user react to changes in packaging? These are factors we consider when developing and introducing new packaging materials for fruit and vegetables.

Sustainability specialist Miquel is very positive about the latest developments in sustainable packaging in the AGF sector. "The AGF sector already uses a lot of mono-materials. We see our partners constantly launching new innovations and using raw materials smarter. For example, by developing flexible materials with more recycled content, we are making sure we are well prepared for upcoming regulations. We also see the conversations changing and the focus on sustainable packaging growing," indicates Miquel.
